IPAF loading, unloading and securing of aerial work platform (LOAD)

The training is for anyone who transports aerial work platforms professionally.
An employee who does not know how to safely load, unload or secure an aerial work platform can cause danger to himself and those around him.

From the Working Conditions Decree article 7.18 and 7.18b, expertise is required for the use on hoisting & lifting equipment for persons, such as the aerial work platform.
The Occupational Health & Safety Act stipulates that employers must ensure that their personnel are adequately trained. in addition, the requirements for knowledge and understanding when loading, unloading and securing aerial work platforms are increasing.

The minimum age of the student is 18.

Trainees must not have impairments of vision, hearing functions and motor skills. The student is required to wear a helmet and safety shoes during the practical part of the training.

Certified fall protection devices are available at the training site , if you own a personal fall protection device it may be used during training provided it meets the inspection requirements.

The loading and unloading of mobile aerial work platforms poses risks, according to IPAF accident reporting database findings.
Approximately one-third of accidents recorded by rental companies involve the flatbed drivers delivering the aerial work platforms. IPAF is focusing on this factor to make all involved aware of the importance of training and safety initiatives.

Mobile aerial work platforms must be properly and safely loaded, secured and unloaded before and after transportation by road to and from the work site.
- Ensure a supervisor is responsible for scheduling delivery, unloading and transport of AWPs.
- Prior to all AWP activities, conduct a thorough risk analysis and document this process.
- Ensure that all employees are adequately trained to perform their duties.
IPAF-approved training centers offer a course on loading, unloading and securing mobile aerial work platforms.
